Establishing us as your child’s Dental Home provides us the opportunity to implement preventive dental health habits that keep a child free from dental/oral disease. We focus on prevention, early detection and treatment of dental diseases, and keeping current on the latest advances in dentistry for children. Pleasant visits to the dental office promote the establishment of trust and confidence in your child that will last a lifetime. Our goal, along with our staff, is to help all children feel good about visiting the dentist and teach them how to care for their teeth. From our special office designs to our communication style, our main concern is what is best for your child.

Getting an early start in regular dental care is an important step on the road to teaching your child healthy lifetime habits. We want to share with you the latest available methods for keeping your child healthy and safe. The first dental visit should occur shortly after the first tooth erupts and no later than the child’s first birthday. Beginning tooth and mouth examinations early may lead to detection of early stages of tooth decay that can be easily treated. At the first visit we will present:
• A program of preventative dental home care including brushing, flossing, diet and the importance of fluorides.
• A caries risk assessment.
• Information about Early Childhood Caries, which may be due to inappropriate nursing habits or inappropriate use of sippy cups.
• The latest facts about finger, thumb and pacifier habits.
• What you need to know about preventing injuries to the mouth and teeth.
• Information on growth and development.

First Cleaning for my two year old


This was my two year old's first teeth cleaning. She was a champ and got her teeth cleaned just like an adult. I contribute the positive experience to the patience of the staff. They informed her as to what was going to happen and tried to make it a fun experience for her by providing cartoons for her to watch and gave her a 'trip to the prize chest' afterward. I was amazed that she allowed a full cleaning to be done. Would definately recommend Dr. McMurtry and staff to my friends and family for both adults and children.

We first saw Dr. McMurtry two years ago when our five year old had a cavity. Dr. McMurtry was able to treat the cavity without any painful shots. Since that first visit, our entire family has switched to his practice. We love that he is professional, yet friendly, and can care for our entire family in his practice. Our boys are excited every time we go to the dentist! His staff is outstanding- I've never met a nicer group of ladies! Thanks for taking such good care of us!

I loved my appointment but was even more impressed when they let my daughter watch at the end of my appointment since it was her first time going to the dentist. I have been very happy with this dentist. He gave my 3 year old two fillings today. She didn't cry or seem to have any pain, and he didn't have to use anything except nitrous oxide to prepare her for the procedure. The technology he uses is amazing, and he has been great with my children.
